I finally gave in.

This week, these blocks of time, were supposed to be for writing.  Catching up on projects that were behind schedule.  Launching the rewrite of SAND.  Little tweaks to CHANT.  For the past two days, I've kinda sorta maybe achieved something that could--in the right light and if one were indulgent--be called progress.

But really, I spent far too much time thinking of the things I "ought" to be doing.  Glancing up at the box of pictures that hadn't yet been hung.  Walking past the stacks of paper on the breakfast bar.  Trying to pretend the closet in the third bedroom wasn't crammed with stuff that needed to be sorted for donations.

So this morning I gave in.  All the pictures and plates have been hung.  The breakfast bar can now be used for working and eating.  A trip to Goodwill and women's shelter has been completed.  I vacuumed and dusted and found places for things that hadn't had a place before.  Then I dove into Dev's room and cleaned it from corner to corner.  Hell, I even turned the mattresses!  I didn't get to the garden, alas, and am having serious doubts about getting anything else out there done before I leave for the week.

Now maybe, just maybe, when I get home from karate tonight, I can make some actual for-real writing progress.

My subconscious simply doesn't accept writing as actual work that should take priority.  It is still that thing I do when the Proper Work is finished.  My frontal lobe would very much like to see that change.

Two days until I bring the boy home.  Four days until we leave for karate camp.

Now that you got all that other stuff done, I bet you get huge volumes of writing work done, too!

Hopefully! My revised goals are to fix the first chapters of two different novels. Other circumstances have allowed me to push the non-fiction deadlines out another month, thank goodness.
