By yesterday evening, Ty couldn't stand up by himself, though he could wobble around -- tail still wagging! -- once we helped up. Today, it's hit and miss on the standing and walking. He did eat almost an entire bowl of stew and drink water, so at least we know he isn't hungry and thirsty.

We've made an appointment with a vet recommended by the only kennel I trust with my pups. I apologized to her for crying while answering her questions. In response, she was kind and reassuring and patient, completely understood why we wanted our other dog in the room with us, and assured us no one would be rushing us out the door.

On one hand, it feels terrible and gut-wrenching to have made an appointment for this sort of thing. But I've heard too many horrible things about waiting too long--about a large pup being in obvious distress for awhile because they're bred to hide and endure pain--to want to wait until the opportunity for a peaceful and love-filled passing is past.
