Some of the streets are quickly cleared, like those main roads through town. But we're three miles outside the city limits, so our county roads might see on or two plow passes in 24 hours. What makes it treacherous, though, is the patchiness of the remaining ice and snowpack. No salt or chemicals can be used to treat the roads because it would run off into the surrounding farmland. We get sand dumped at intersections, and that's about it. :)
It's been a week, and several of our north-south roads are still more snowpack than pavement. Considering the weather report--temps no warmer than 34 degrees for yet another week!--it'll be snowpacked quite awhile longer.
As for what Dev and I are doing on Christmas... Really, it's our way to avoid sitting at home thinking about how we're just sitting at home. We'll both feel better if we get out and do something for the sake of someone else.
