Dog Show On A Steamy Day
Jun. 16th, 2012 11:15 pmDev and the pups had an excellent showing at the "fun match" dog show today! Ty placed second in agility--better than he usually does at this point in the season--and third in obedience. Since it's his fourth year, he is required to do a couple extra techniques that he still isn't sure about. During the usual Recall exercise, Dev is supposed to walk about twenty feet from Ty, call Ty to sit in front of him, then cue Ty to walk behind him and finally sit beside him. But this year, Dev has to give Ty an extra "down" command, so Ty interrupts the recall to drop to his belly. Ty doesn't see the point to lying down, just to get up again, so he kinda ignores the first "Down!" command. That was enough to drop him to third.
Gambit, to our great shock, placed second in obedience. Not bad for the pup's first show. His biggest mistake was also on Recall. Instead of sitting in front of Dev, then waiting for the "finish" command, Gambit took it upon himself to finish right away. That's what happens with smart dogs beginning in obedience; they anticipate the commands. His agility run sucked from the perspective of proper technique, but was awesome in terms of enjoyment. That once-abused dog frolicked in front of everyone, his little nub of a tail wiggling back and forth.
Gambit also got to see his foster family today, and wagged his butt so hard he nearly fell over.
And now, after all day in the heat, juggling two dogs and a teenager, I am about to fall over.
